RachelRachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character, created by writer-producer Ehren Kruger and portrayed by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two and shares a lot of similarities to Reiko Asakawa from the first Japanese films.Introduced in 2002's film, Rachel is an investigative journalist trying to figure out the best way to avoid death after having to watch a video that was cursed that she discovered while investigating the death of her niece. In The Ring Two, Rachel must investigate the background of Samara Morgan when her son gets sick with a mysterious ailment.In The Ring, Rachel Keller, an investigative journalist who is requested by her sister Ruth to look into the mysterious circumstances behind her niece Katie's death. Rachel discovers that Katie was healthy , and that she discovered Katie's body disfigured inside the closet. Katie's close friends recount to Rachel the story of the legend of the cursed filmtape and Katie's friend Becca being institutionalized for witnessing Katie die. Rachel also discovers that Katie's boyfriend and two of her friends all died in bizarre accidents on the same night , at around 10 PM. Rachel goes to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she stays in Cabin 12. This cabin is the one Katie and her friends saw the tape with the curse. Rachel discovers the tape and begins to watch the tape. The phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is able to call Noah Clay, her ex-boyfriend and a video analyst for help. In the future, Rachel discovers that Aidan the son of her with Noah, watched the tape at the same time that Noah calls her, telling him that he trusts her. Rachel examines the lighthouse found on the tape and discovers that it is located on Moesko Island, the home of a slain horse breeder named Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape that was cursed. After investigating, Rachel discovers Anna had an adopted daughter, named Samara who was possessed of the ability to create disturbing images in the minds of individuals as well as animals and other objects. Rachel is forced to flee Anna's widower Richard after she starts asking questions regarding Samara.
